The designer talks about the behind-the-scenes of working with the presidential couple

Dorota Goldpoint prepared several styles for President Agata Duda for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. This time, the designer focused on delicate asymmetry, which added elegance and at the same time complied with the rules of diplomatic protocol. This is because in this case, many different aspects had to be taken into account. The shade of black, the texture of the material, the quality of the fabric, the length of the dress or the size of the headgear were not insignificant. However, not all participants in the funeral followed the rules of protocol.

Our presidential couple went to Great Britain for a funeral, they were to appear in several places and this required us to prepare at least three styles. While paying tribute in front of Queen Elizabeth’s coffin, the first lady appeared in a double-breasted dress, a navy one with an asymmetrical collar, of course in black – she says.

For the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the styling of the president’s wife, on the other hand, was enhanced with a tasteful headdress.

– This styling was commented quite well in the media. It also had an element of asymmetry, it was a dress with a peplum that looked like a suit and a headgear. According to the guidelines, its diameter was to be greater than 10 cm, but it should not be too big a hat. So I am very satisfied that we managed to prepare a style for such an important and unique, even on a centenary scale occasion that attracted the attention of the media, she says.

What is it like to work with important people? Dorota Goldpoint says

Dorota Goldpoint points out that when preparing an outfit for various official meetings or celebrations, you need to follow many guidelines and refine every detail.

– The color black is also mportant, because it must be a very deep black, matte, appropriate fabric that appears blue in cameras or n photos. This element should be taken into account, just like the shade of tights and shoes, it all matters – he emphasizes.

The designer mentions that in this case she was working under a lot of time pressure. After all, several orders overlapped at one point, and no negligence or delay could be afforded.

– It was a very intense period. A trip to the United States was originally planned, so those plans had to be adjusted as the presidential couple went to the funeral. Moreover, production is always planned well in advance. At the same time we were sewing a collection for the show in Dubai, so we faced enormous tension, we had very little time for corrections and the situation was changing dynamically over the next few days, because more and more people were coming to us rom the diplomacy department. directive.  When working with public figures, however, we must take into account that such situations may happen and we are ready for it, he says.

Dorota Goldpoint proudly emphasizes that her entire team rose to the occasion. Each styling has been carefully considered and adapted to diplomatic protocol.

– This is quite a responsible job and we cannot make any formal mistakes, because the president follows diplomatic protocol very carefully. That’s why we are obliged to implement all these directives into our proposals, into our styles, so it is extremely important – he explains.

Stylistic sins of members of the royal family at the funeral of Elizabeth II

The designer also reveals that while watching the broadcast of the funeral ceremony, she looked closely at all the styles. In her opinion, in some cases there was too much extravagance that could not be afforded during such a ceremony.

– I wouldn’t like to talk about names here, but maybe I will talk about the headgear of the young generation of the royal family. Two ladies had very large hats and although they were very beautiful, diplomatic protocol requires a certain size of headgear. A headband with some kind of ribbon or bow was also insufficient in my opinion. In addition, there were also inappropriate styles with exposed shoulders and forearms. Such things should not ake place during such a celebration. Besides, the styles should be 7/8, i.e. approximately mid-calf length, but I noticed that there were also some knee-length ones, in the wrong shade of black, so I was a bit surprised by such a discrepancy between the protocol and what we saw – she adds Dorothy Goldpoint.
